The Ariege is steadily building a reputation as one of the best rock climbing destinations in France. With around 2400 routes spread over 50+ crags there is a huge amount on offer all within a relatively small area. Styles cover everything from bouldering and sport climbing to trad, ice, via ferrata and adventurous big mountain routes.

Many of the settings are superb and access is generally straightforward and quick. Topo's for much of the Ariège climbing are available as free PDF downloads on the web so there's no need to track down guide-books.

Located centrally in the Pyrenees close to the border with Spain, the weather is pretty good. The south facing crags provide superb winter climbs and there is plenty of shady climbing to avoid the full heat of summer.

Car Free Climbing- with plenty to choose from on foot from the accommodation why not go car free and catch a train. (see 'Travel' for more info)

What some of our previous guests had to say:

I stayed here for a few nights recently. Fantastic place, comfy beds and great hosts. Really well situated for climbing on Calames (brilliant single and multi-pitch sun trap with climbing of all grades) and surrounding crags.

Found this place by chance and stayed for a couple of nights. Liked it so much we have booked it out as a gite in October. The accommodation is ideally located for climbing in the Ariege with one of the main crags a short walk from the front door and other crags a short drive.
Lovely comfortable open plan kitchen/sitting area and a great breakfast. Good place to meet other climbers, very sociable and the hosts can give you lots of information. Very good value
